1997 William Reneker Memorial Community Service Award recipient is LISA LeMASTERS Lisa LeMasters moved to Winona Lake in July of 1979 when her husband accepted a position with Warsaw Community Schools. Mr. LeMasters had summered in the Town as a youth. When the opportunity came to live in the area, he and Lisa chose the nearness of the lake and small town atmosphere of Winona. Lisa lives with her husband, Jim, and their five children, Lydia, Caleb, Micah, Isaac, and Hannah, in one of the Town's historical homes. Lisa has an MSN (Masters in Nursing). As a nurse practitioner, she specializes in women's care. Lisa also volunteers many hours to the American Red Cross. She helps with learning fairs and exhibits her expertise in basketry, spinning and other crafts. She is secretary of the Winona Lake Housing Authority and serves on the Board of Directors for the Winona Historical Society. Lisa is Winona's own "flower lady." She volunteers countless hours each year improving the appearance of the Town by planting and caring for flower gardens in the circle on the old Assembly property and other areas. Visitors to the park enjoy the variety of color and fragrance from the many beautiful beds designed and maintained by her. The bulbs planted along its edges have brightened the canal. Lisa has volunteered to develop the railroad embankment with the area's natural flora. To do so, she will teach street department employees the difference between a weed and a wildflower. When residents and visitors enjoy the beauty of Winona Lake from its historical architecture to lovely flower gardens, they can thank the willing hands of the 1997 Williams Reneker Memorial Community Service Award recipient, Lisa LeMasters. |
