Lips so soft
and round and full
cherish the thought
that harm will befall
those who think it fair
to kiss, cold and puckered
bloody lips
Lips gone pale
and tightly shut
will in the end
find repose, over
filthy sluts and dirty hoes

The narrow road funnels down
like a steeple etched in the ground,
Autumn leaves how soon descend
upon its angles and fence it in.

"'Tis just about three years, that I have been for the most part in a low, sunk estate and condition, miserably senseless to what I used to be, about spiritual things. 'Twas three years ago, the week before commencement; just about the same time this year, I began to be somewhat as I used to be." - Jonathan Edwards, September 26, 1726
"So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in the them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.
You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the trust that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need." Paul, ~60-62 A.D.

Of Constellations and Dreams
It's been so long
Since I've seen with clarity
That Your eyes speak truth
Of constellations and dreams
I live from breath to breath
To taste this mountain air
Closing in on Heaven
And cities unseen
Let's walk a little further
A moonlit passage into the night
We'll rise before the sun
And watch it paint the sky
With all our favorite dreams
And chase away our fear
That Hope had left our side

Elements of War
Another game played
I'm still picking up the pieces
I'm still looking for a way out
It's not checkmate
Till you're picking up the pieces
And your eyes are lined with doubt
Victory isn't in the fight
It's knowing you'll never fall
That there's something larger in your chest
And your sword isn't dull
A shield that's been proven
Polished armor, buckled tight
Fitted head and foot
Stand ready and fight

*alarmed overly dramatized gasp* Oh no, could there actually be consequences to wrong choices? Maybe that's moving too fast. Let's start at consequences and work our way back to understanding that choices can be wrong outside of our society's moral relativity.

A Matter of Choice
i
surrender
i choose to obey
he is defeated
as night faded to day
his claws are as sharp
as the dullness of Your blade
his only power
is in the truth i've betrayed
my God, my Savior
guide my thoughts
veil my eyes
burn all the doubt
i've learned to despise
today is the day
to love and to dream
tomorrow reflects
what i truely believe
the promise i live for
a mind undeceived

Saturday Morning
He woke up feeling fine
A breath of fresh air
A warm summer's rain
Eyes that never saw the break of day
He's a happy one today
Smiling in the rain
The water's been rising
"Knee high," they say
He's got his mouth open
Trying to swallow them down
Up to his chin
He's blowing bubbles
A little gurgling sound
His lips are moving
I can't make it out
Oh, he's about to drown
The sun never rose today
A third of the stars fell from the sky
Swept from the heavens as she passed by
Singing a song of sheer delight

Broken Bridges
Trailing the river's way
My journey carries me upstream
Hoping for a way to the other side
But all the bridges are broken
I'd like to think myself wise
To say I've never tried
But my legs grow weary of walking
And I've fallen many times
It never fails to be the deepest point
The choppiest waters
When her timbers splinter
Swept downstream to the shallows
I find my footing on the rocky bed
And pull myself to the bank
Miles from the nearest crossing
I could walk this path forever
My legs would never give in
But I was made for the other
Where we can fight and win

Dura
A shadow has fallen
Upon the plains
Ninety by nine
Behold, bow down
A towering devil
A serpent unbound
Sound the trumpets
Cry aloud
Fallen by nature
Kneel to the ground
Shackle our limbs
Our spirit won't drown
Burn us alive
We won't die numb
Untouched, unharmed
The son of gods aflame
A light for all
A coming dawn
A shadow has fallen upon the plains
And very soon will fade to day

As soon
as You stepped through my door,
I saw You for the first time all over again
And time well spent seems
Lonelier than the way it used to go
I smell You for the first time all over again
I'll begin to remember to feel love
So if you don't mind
I think I'll wear my heart on my sleeve,
'Cause I'm tired of not being able to bleed
All of us are searching for an open arm
Well, it's a shame how I curl up in the dark
When it's the same old word giving me the spark
I failed the lost
For some time I slipped, stumbled,
But fell face first straight
Into Your hand
Then I hit my head on Your palm
And wakened up to the smell of
Tears drying up in the sand
I washed my wounds with tears of hope
I washed my wounds with tears of hope
I just...
All of us are searching for an open arm
Well, it's a shame how I pull myself apart
When it's the same words making me run for cover to Your arms

During Christmas break and J-Term, I was given the opportunity to travel to Ghana, West Africa, as well as Jamaica. The people I have met, the places I have been, and the ways of life I have experiences first hand in the last month have given me much to think about. God used my circumstances to teach me valuable lessons and even now that I have returned, He is still teaching me from everything I experienced.
While in Jamaica, I met a woman known as Ms. Sadie. Her faith and confident prayers remain unmatched by any person, man or woman, I have ever met. Once when I was speaking with her she made me promise that when I came back I would share my experiences, everything that I had learned, everything that God showed me, with those here at home. And so the following is, in short, what I have learned.
Romans 4:7-8,20-21 "Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him...he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised."
Here, Paul refers to Abraham and spells out exactly what it means to believe. Abraham's faith was credited to him as righteousness because he believed God and took His promises to heart.
In Psalms 78, the poet recounts how the Israelites forgot everything God had done for them--the wonders as He brought them out of Egypt and their very freedom. Because of their unbelief, God let them wander in the desert for 40 years until a new generation rose up and recognized His power and remembered what the Lord had done.
In all this, I realized that I had been living as though I'd forgotten what God had done for me. When we forget where God has brought us from, we lose sight of where He is leading us. And so "I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds." Psalm 77:11-12
So from the these two trips I have learned to stand on God's promises, trusting that His purpose is perfect and unchanging and believing that He has the power to make good on them. And most of all, to share my testimony every chance I get. The more often I do, the less likely I am to forget what He has done for me.
Dreamers Sing
Lost along a dusty broken road
Mud huts, bare feet
It's Your home
The Place where dreamers meet
Anticipation growing in each eye
Raised voices of those
Gathered near and far
The little ones He chose
All we have, we will give
Everything You are, we will be
In every song we sing
Let our praises ring
When we are all here
All here together
When we are all here
We will do wonders
So let the dreamers sing
We'll meet again someday
Shake the dust from our feet
We'll be home to stay

It could be heaven
But we don't see
We could be free
But we're lost in a dream
Tangled in a net
Destiny conceived
Senseless and silent
We are who we will be
Birth brings life
From darkness to light
Open your lungs and breathe
Open your eyes and see
The poor man and the oppressed have this in common: The Lord gives sight to the eyes of both. - Proverbs 29:13

Close my eyes and enter in
Bow at Your feet
And You move to my side
Knowing all I need is everything You are
Wanting Your strength within
I'll find my hope in You
When everything changes
And I lose sight
Your love never ends
I'll wait through the night
The stars a promise
A dawn is breaking
And Your light shines forever
When the morning comes
I'll see You

Jacob's Ladder
Gazing through the window
Searching that pale blue sky
A hopeless breach between
Perfection and this empty state
A product of truth corrupted
Like a crows broken wing
Free to fly, yet falls trying
Longing for something real
A promise of freedom; a gift away
So let go to receive
Now, eyes fixed on the sun
Image burning deep inside
A guide in the blackest of nights

For All the Times...
For all the times I've walked away
For all the times I've been so blind
And all the times
You've welcomed me back, arms stretched wide
For all the times I've cried
For all the times I've wanted to die
And all the times
You've been at my side, long into the night
For all the times I've been afraid
For all the times I've doubted
And all the times
You've spoken Your word, my one true light
For all the times we'll walk those streets
For all the times we'll soar the sky
And all the times
We'll spend in Your city, in Zion so high
For all the times...
Thank You.
